German Umlate - 2008/06/28 18:10 when indexing German pdfs the index stops at the first Umlaut.

e.g. I'm indxing pdfs, which are starting with "ifem - institut für ..."

The result is only:
"ifem
Institut f"

I would appreciate help.

also got a solution for that problem. I refer to my post on topic "Incomplete indexing" in the "bugs" section.

Follow the steps of my post to install the whole xpdf package.

Now you can set a "unicodetounicode" file in the xpdfrc configuration. (See example configuration file).

Here is an example of this file:

1. Column -> Hex to replace
2. Column -> 1st replace Hex
3. Column -> 2nd replace Hex

In the first line the character ä will be treated like
characters a and e.

00FC 0075 0065
00E4 0061 0065
00F6 006F 0065
00DC 0055 0065
00C4 0041 0065
00D6 004F 0065
