let me summarize what I understood:

I am downloading the binary for linux: ftp://ftp.foolabs.com/pub/xpdf/xpdf-3.02pl2-linux.tar.gz
because my provider is running the server with a redhead distribution

I am unpacking this archive and upload all files to root/administrator/components/com_file_index/includes

and then I am reindexing all my pdf files in the component administration.

this is still not working. what exactly do I have to do to get this plugin working with German language?

Of Course you have to edit the existing xpdfrc file.

Here's the content of my config file:

i'm sorry but i cannot follow this instructions to solve the "umlaute" problem.

i only have one config file at this location:
/administrator/components/com_file_index/config.file_index.php

I would appreciate a step by step instructions

1. Download ftp://ftp.foolabs.com/pub/xpdf/xpdf-...2-linux.tar.gz, unpack the files and upload them to /administrator/components/com_file_index/includes
2. Extract the "Umlaute Patch", upload and overwrite existing files on your ftp
3. (Re-)Index your PDFs in your Joomla Backend (Modify Indexes -> Re-Index)

hallo bzn,

Erstmal danke für deine Antwort und den Patch. Leider klappt das bei mir nicht.

xpdf linux und den patch habe ich drübergebügelt.
überschrieben wird beim hochladen nur die php-datei (admin.file_index.php) diese war also auf dem server also schon vorhanden. die restlichen dateien nicht.

die datei xpdfrc war zuvor nicht vorhanden. in der neuen admin.file_index.php ist die datei xpdfrc auch nicht verlinkt. wie soll die neu hochgeladene xpdfrc also einen effekt haben? komischerweise war auf dem server eine datei "xpdfrc5" schon vorhanden, aber keine xpdfrc...

hast du einen plan, warum das bei mir nicht geht?
